Chinedu arrested in Colombia for drug trafficking, manufacturing

A Nigerian man, Joseph Chinedu Okparaejesi, has been arrested in Colombia for drug trafficking, manufacturing, and possession of narcotics.

He was apprehended at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá while attempting to board a flight from São Paulo, Brazil, following a court order obtained by the Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General de la Nación).

Okparaejesi, also known as Alen, is allegedly the leader of a transnational criminal network accused of sending travellers to Spain with cocaine hidden in their luggage.

Evidence suggests that he financed the purchase of the illicit substances and the entire smuggling operation, this included preparing human couriers, acquiring double-bottom suitcases to conceal the drugs, and organising the logistics to ensure their departure from Colombia and arrival in Europe.

According to a statement, the joint operation, involving the Office of the Attorney General, Dijin of the National Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), revealed that Okparaejesi allegedly travelled across Latin America to replicate his criminal activities.

His role was confirmed when a man carrying concealed cocaine was arrested while planning to fly to Madrid, Spain, via El Dorado airport.

Since then, authorities have arrested 15 individuals, including both couriers and members of the criminal organisation.

As a result, a prosecutor assigned to the Specialised Directorate formally charged Okparaejesi with trafficking, manufacturing, or possession of narcotics.

The defendant pleaded guilty to all charges.

Following the judicial order, Okparaejesi must now serve a prison sentence. The Office of the Attorney General has made this information public in the interest of general awareness.
