CNG warns APC, PDP against political violence in Gombe

Story from Najibullahi ADAMU, Gombe

Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State not to disrupt the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

The coalition who was reacting to the last Saturday’s incident in Funakaye local government where the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Muritala Usman, had alleged that the APC sent thugs to disrupt the reception of defectors, a position his counterpart, Moses Kyari of APC debunked, adding that it may be an internal crisis within the PDP.

According to a press statement issued by CNG’s Gombe State Coordinator, Mohammad Ibrahim, yesterday, both parties should eschew violence.

The group condemned the use of youths by politicians to ferment violence, advising that instead, youths should be engaged in useful ventures so society can benefit from their energy and productivity.

They also called on security agencies to intervene promptly before the incidences escalated.

“We wish to bring to the notice of the government, security agencies the recent incidence that happened in the state which involves political parties.

“The coalition wants to note with utmost dismay the seeming consistency in the occurrence of such event in the state. If we may recall, last year November 2021, an incident happened in the capital which was politically inclined that led to the loss of life and property.

“Again, this year 22nd January 2022, a similar incident happened in Funakaye that led to attack and destruction of properties between the two political parties – APC and PDP,” the statement read in parts.
