19-year-old Nigerian athlete, Favour Ofili, will be the latest to secure a medal for her country after finishing second behind Jamaican sprinter, Elaine Thompson-Herah, in the 200m race to add a silver to Team Nigeria’s haul at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham on Saturday night.

Ofili took off strongly from the block and finished the race at 22.51s behind Thompson-Herah’s Games record’s 22.02s
Her African counterpart and Namibia’s Olympic silver medallist, Christine Mboma, took bronze with 22.80s.
Ofili’s silver medal win is the second of such medal Nigeria had won in the event after Mary Onyali who ran 22.35s to place second behind Australia’s Cathy Freeman in 1994.
In the games Nigeria now has a medal haul records of one gold after Blessing Okagbare’s 22.25s blistering run eight years ago in Glasgow, Scotland and two silver medals.
Nigeria is currently sixth on the medal’s table with 10 gold, eight silver and 13 bronze.
Australia maintains a comfortable lead with 60 gold, 48 silver and 51 bronze while hosts, England are second with 50 gold, 56 silver and 49 bronze medals as at the time of this report.
