Communities applaud Governor Buni’s development drive in Yobe

    Story by Tawheed Yakub

Residents across Yobe State are expressing renewed hope and optimism as more development projects nearing completion were uncovered during an ongoing media tour of projects executed by the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The tour, which brought together journalists from local, national, and international media organisations, offered a rare opportunity for communities to share their experiences and assess the impact of government interventions across the state. From the vast sand dunes of northern Yobe to the rocky landscapes of the southern axis, the journey revealed a consistent pattern of infrastructural development cutting across geography and local government boundaries.

One of the first stops was the 17-kilometre Dawasa–Cukuriwa–Kukuri surface-dressed road in Nangere Local Government Area. For farmers and traders in the area, the road represents more than asphalt and drainage, it is a lifeline. Residents explained that the new road has significantly reduced travel time, improved access to markets, and made it easier to transport farm produce, boosting local incomes and agricultural productivity.
In Potiskum, attention shifted to the Ultra-Modern Market, a project many traders described as a long-awaited answer to years of congestion and poor trading conditions. Community members noted that the modern facilities, improved layout, and security features will not only enhance business activities but also attract investors and buyers from neighbouring states. Traders said they are eager to move in, believing the market will redefine commercial activities in the area.

The tour also took journalists to several other key projects, including the Mega School Potiskum, the Potiskum Transit Trailer Park, the Potiskum–Ngojin Road, the Ngalda Modern Market, the Fika–Maluri Road, and the Bula–Danchua–Jajere Road. In each location, residents highlighted how the projects are improving access to education, easing transportation challenges, and stimulating economic growth.
Across the benefiting communities, a common sentiment emerged: appreciation for what residents described as a deliberate and people-centred development agenda. Many said the projects have restored confidence in governance and demonstrated a clear commitment to improving livelihoods, especially in rural and previously underserved areas.
As the media tour continues, more projects awaiting commissioning are expected to be unveiled, reinforcing the scale of infrastructural transformation underway in Yobe State and the growing sense among residents that development is reaching their doorsteps
