Court orders Dele Farotimi’s return to prison
The Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti has denied bail to human rights activist Dele Farotimi.
Farotimi, who was brought to court in a police security van at around 10:00 am, was accompanied by officials from the correctional centre. He is facing charges of defaming Aare Afe Babalola, the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD).
During Tuesday’s proceedings, Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun adjourned the bail hearing to December 20, after the police counsel, Samson Osobu, argued that Farotimi’s bail application was flawed and irregular.
Activist Omoyele Sowore, providing an update on his official X account, confirmed the adjournment and noted that Farotimi will remain in prison for the next 10 days. Sowore also took a subtle jab at the ongoing case, commenting on the consequences of “begging” in the matter.
“The ruling on @delefarotimi‘s bail application was adjourned until December 20. Dele Farotimi has been sent back to prison for the next 10 days. See what begging has done #FreeDeleFarotimiNow,” Sowore wrote.
