COVID-19: Gov. Sanwo-Olu confirms arrival of vaccines

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has confirmed that the doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines have arrived in the state.

Mr Sanwo-Olu in a statement on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, revealed this at the 2021 International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the state government received the vaccines at 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

The doses are part of the about 4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine shipped via the COVAX Facility, a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO, into Nigeria on March 2, 2021.

He assured residents that the vaccines were kept in a safe place.

Sanwo-Olu urged Lagosians to continue to observe COVID-19 protocols, including wearing of facemasks, washing of hands and observing social distancing.

Gboyega Akosile while also announcing the arrival of the vaccines, said, “We’re making progress. The world will see the end of the pandemic. Good morning Lagos.”
