Customs, FRSC partner to enhance national security, boost revenue (Pictures)
On June 5, 2024, at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) headquarters in Abuja, Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi pledged to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance security and revenue generation.
This announcement came during a meeting with the newly appointed Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed.
CGC Adeniyi highlighted the importance of cooperation between government agencies to ensure public safety and economic prosperity. He emphasized the alignment of NCS and FRSC’s visions and the necessity of working together to achieve common goals.
“We did sign a memorandum of understanding, and it is working very well. It has room for improvement to deepen collaboration,” Adeniyi stated, adding that joint efforts would help eliminate issues like vehicle theft and improper vehicle importation.
The CGC also mentioned an ongoing window for regularising improperly imported vehicles, urging compliance before strict enforcement begins. He stressed the continuous seizure of substandard tires due to their safety risks.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed praised the CGC for improving staff welfare and integrating vehicle information systems, which bolster national security, revenue, and business efficiency while curbing smuggling.
He called for further support from the NCS to enforce restrictions on importing over-aged vehicles, highlighting their role in fatal accidents.
Mohammed assured that the FRSC would support the NCS in achieving its goals, reinforcing that strong inter-agency collaboration leads to significant advancements in trade modernisation and security.
