Customs Service mourns sudden loss of Deputy Comptroller, Etop Andrew Essien

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is mourning the unexpected death of Deputy Comptroller Etop Andrew Essien, who passed away on June 25, 2024. Essien, 56, collapsed while presenting to the National Assembly House Committee on Public Accounts.

Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada reported that Essien, responsible for revenue reconciliation, experienced discomfort and asked for water before collapsing. Despite immediate efforts to revive him, Essien sadly did not survive.

Essien, who served the NCS for over 30 years, was highly respected for his dedication and exemplary service in the Accounts Unit. Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi expressed deep condolences to Essien’s family, noting the significant loss to the NCS community.

Deputy Comptroller Essien is survived by his wife and children.
