David Moyes returns as Everton manager
David Moyes has been announced as the new manager of Everton Football Club, marking his return to the Premier League team after Sean Dyche’s recent dismissal.
The club revealed Moyes’ appointment in a statement on Saturday, highlighting his extensive experience and accomplishments during his previous tenure from 2002 to 2013. “David is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and accomplished managers, having led Everton for more than 500 matches,” the statement read.
Marc Watts, Everton’s executive chairman, expressed confidence in Moyes’ leadership. “With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to build the foundation of a new era for Everton,” Watts stated.
Moyes himself shared his enthusiasm for rejoining the club. “It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club,” he remarked.
The appointment follows Everton’s tumultuous start to the season, with Dyche managing only one win in his last 11 games, leaving the team just a point above the relegation zone. Dyche was dismissed shortly after the club’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Peterborough, with former defender Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman stepping in as interim coaches for the match.
Moyes, who has been out of managerial duties since leaving West Ham at the end of last season, signed a two-and-a-half-year contract. His first game in charge will be against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The 61-year-old Scot is fondly remembered by Everton fans for his previous achievements, including a fourth-place Premier League finish in 2005 and an FA Cup final appearance in 2009. His return comes as the club prepares to transition to its new home at the Bramley Moore Dock Stadium next season.
Everton’s new owners, the Friedkin Group, opted for Moyes after exploring other candidates, including former Chelsea manager Graham Potter and Jose Mourinho. Potter ultimately joined West Ham, while Mourinho distanced himself from the role.
Moyes now faces the challenge of steering Everton away from relegation and setting a solid foundation for their future in the new stadium. Fans and management alike are hopeful his experience and familiarity with the club will usher in a successful new chapter.
