The Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Mai Mala Buni, has approved an assistance of SAR (Saudi Arabian Riyal) 300, equivalent to about N30,000, to each pilgrim of the state meant to subsidize pilgrims’ hadaya payment owing to the high cost of sacrificial animals.
It was learnt that Governor Buni is so far the only state governor in Nigeria that offered such financial assistance to his citizens at the holy land.
The timely gesture by Governor Buni to the state pilgrims was disclosed to Hajj Reporters by the Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Pilgrims Commission, Alhaji Bukar Kime at Muna in Makkah.
The Governor then implored the state pilgrims to pray for permanent peace, tranquility and positive developments to prevail in the state and country at large.
It would be recalled that the governor was in Saudi Arabia just before the airlifting of pilgrims began where he inspected the state’s pilgrims’ sleeping quarters and feeding arrangements.
Not satisfied with what he saw, Governor Buni instructed that all beddings must be changed with higher quality materials procured. He also instructed that on no account should a Yobe pilgrim come out to line for food but that all pilgrims must have their food taken to them in their rooms.
