Disclaimer: NCS alerts public on fake facebook accounts, fraudulent activities targeting citizens

The Nigeria Customs Service has issued a public warning about scammers creating fake Facebook accounts impersonating Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer.

In an official statement, the NCS confirmed that the only verified Facebook page of the National PRO is marked with a blue verification badge.

Any other profile using his name or image without verification is fraudulent and should be reported.

Fraudsters Targeting the Public with Fake Contact Details

According to the NCS, scammers are using these fake profiles to deceive unsuspecting members of the public by sharing false contact details for illegal activities.

The Service emphasized that these accounts have no connection to its operations and are being used solely to exploit people.

Additionally, the agency disclosed that a fraudster has been using the phone number +234 706 301 0692 to carry out scams under the name of the National PRO.

The statement clarified:
“For the avoidance of doubt, this number does not belong to the National PRO or any official of the NCS and is in no way associated with the Service.”

Public Urged to Report Fake Accounts
The NCS has urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report any fraudulent profiles or suspicious activities to Meta and relevant authorities for prompt action.

The statement further reassured the public of its commitment to protecting them from scams:
“We kindly urge everyone to assist in reporting such fake profiles and fraudulent activities to Meta and the appropriate authorities to ensure swift action.

The NCS remains committed to protecting the public and strongly advises verifying all information through our official channels to avoid falling victim to these schemes.”

To stay safe, members of the public are advised to cross-check information from the NCS only through its official website, verified social media accounts, and recognized communication channels.
