District Head raises alarm over deplorable state of Lamba market in Plateau

A District Head of Wase Local Government Area (LGA) in Plateau State, Alhaji Usman Adamu Manzo has raised an alarm over the deplorable state of the Lamba market in the area.

The aftermaths of inter-religious conflict in Wase LGA have continued to affect the business activities, revenue generation and economic wellbeing of the natives.

Lamba market was the second largest in Wase LGA, among the oldest market since the time immemorial were traders travelled from the length and breadth of Nigeria to visit to purchase goods at a very cheaper rate.

Neptune Prime’s correspondent visited the market last week to access its activities which takes place every Thursday, where heterogeneous people come in mass for the transaction of different kind of businesses.

The image of the market keeps on diminishing, day in, day out because of improper management and lack of intervention from the government, thereby, causing low revenue to the council.

The District Head lamented how the government has abandoned the market as nothing tangible is being done for the progress and development of the market.

Alhaji Manzo said the market is one of the oldest and lacks a cattle point and a mini abattoir for butchers to use.

He called on the government and other agencies to come to their rescue and build a standard modern market.

Meanwhile, the head of the market square, Malam Yusuf Muhammad said that the market has only two buildings which are very short for marketers to transact a business.

Muhammad added that most of the marketers stayed under a tree while others stay in the sun to sell their goods and services.

In the same vein, the Madakin Lamba, Justice Isa Garba, expressed his dissatisfaction on how the market was abandoned which has led to irregularities from the marketers.

He added that the market lacks a public toilet, motor park, slaughter and supervision from the environmental officers.

Garba appealed to the government to come to their aid as the market is on the verge of collapsing.
