Doctors save lives but can do otherwise: My ordeal at AKTH, by Abubakar Ismail Kankara

About two weeks ago, I collapsed and became unconscious in the office. Unfortunately for me, I was rushed to the emergency unit of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

Two of my colleagues, Muhammad Sani Dan’iya Muhasa’s admin/accountant, and Auwal Hussain Dukawuya, who’s the head of religion, were the two persons who took me to the hospital.

According to them, I wasn’t attended to until they made payments, despite my situation, in which I needed emergency attention.

However, after some injections and drips, I regained consciousness, and I was later transferred to the Aminu Alhassan DanTata new emergency unit, in which I was pushed into a wheelchair by a kind-hearted AKTH staff.

Before then, blood samples were taken for testing, and the two people with me took one to the lab while the other went to the payment desk. For the payments, he had waited for about an hour, saying the cashier went to pray while I was left unattended.

After a while, a very beautiful doctor called my name, and my colleague pushed me to see the doctor, who examined me and placed me on another medication.

Another wahala as the payments for the drugs, injections, and drips were halted due to the cashier’s still not being back in the seat.
I waited for about an hour or less also.

The danger
There is this doctor called Abdul, who has been shouting at patients and directing them out because their payments were not processed, though I was not one of his victims.

But I saw how a woman died unattended while I was in a wheelchair.

The woman was brought, but she died in the wheelchair unattended because the cashier was not in her seat for long, while Dr. Abdul was also busy shouting for those who didn’t pay.

In my presence (sitting in the wheelchair), the doctor ordered a guy to be brought down the sick bed while he was unconscious; in the same case with the woman whose siblings went to make payments, Dr. Abdul ordered her to be out.

I think doctors save lives, but then I realize that doctors can do otherwise.
