Drama in Kano Sharia court as all 13 lawyers defending Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara wifdraw from case

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

All 13 lawyers defending Kano based controversial cleric, Sheikh Abduljabbar Kabara has unanimously withdrawn from the case, and instead, asked their client to look for other lawyers to defend him.

In a letter to Sheikh Abduljabbar written on the letter headed paper of B.S  Gano & Co. Barristers and Solicitors, they has expressed their willingness not to continue with the case because of the attitude of their client, who since the case started has been pretending to be deaf and dumb.

During the proceedings, the judge of the Court Justice Alkali Yola has announced that based on the report they received from competent doctors, Abduljabbar who all along refused to talk during previous sittings is in sound health and of good memory. He only decided to be deaf and dumb as a mark of lack of respect to the judicial authorities.

It could be recalled that since Abduljabbar was dragged before the Sharia Court headed by Justice Sarki Yola based on recommendation set up by Kano State Government that conducted a question and answer session between Abduljabbar and Ulamas, the cleric refused to talk in court pretending that he was undergoing a temporary medical problem.

The presiding judge, therefore, decided to refer him to specialist doctors to ascertain his true health status, which later turned out to be perfect. This has annoyed his team of lawyers who decided to unanimously withdraw from the case and stop defending him, which they gave Abduljabbar in writing.

The Court has now fixed the 30th of September, 2021 for the continuation of the case, and told Abduljabbar to look for lawyers that will defend him before then or the state will appoint lawyers that will defend him so that he will get a fair hearing.

But to the surprise of all, Abduljabbar who spoke for the first time noted that all along nothing is wrong with him, but he decided to keep quiet as a protest to his prosecution by the state government because as far as he is concerned, he has committed no offence for Kano State Government to prosecute him, all his previous stands on his preaches are direct from what he read as an Ulama, he never created them.
