Emir of Damaturu honours Yobe Security Adviser with ‘Zannah Ziriyoma’ title for contributions to peace, stability

The Emir of Damaturu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar Alamin El-Kanemi, conferred the traditional chieftaincy title of “Zannah Ziriyoma” of Damaturu Emirate on General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni.
The prestigious title is in recognition of General Abdulsalam’s significant contributions to peace and security efforts within the state.
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed Zannah expressed profound gratitude to Almighty God and the Emir for the honour.

He described it as both a personal milestone and a recognition of his team’s work toward ensuring peace and stability in Yobe.
“This title recognises our modest efforts in ensuring peace and stability in Yobe State, efforts which many have observed.
“No one has dared to publicly recognise this except the Emir of Damaturu, who has conferred this title on me,” General Abdussalam stated.
He pledged to intensify his commitment to tackling insecurity, emphasising that collective cooperation remains key to overcoming current challenges.

“With the cooperation of our people, I will redouble my efforts to ensure we overcome the present challenges of insecurity. Our goal is to achieve a definitive end to these threats and ensure sustainable peace and stability for all,” he affirmed.
The Security Adviser also commended the critical role played by local vigilante groups, popularly known as hunter groups, who operate in collaboration with the Nigerian military.
“Under the guidance of the Nigerian military, they have done tremendously well. They have developed such high capacity that they can now undertake independent deep-penetration operations, tasks typically reserved for well-trained military units,” he noted.
He added that the vigilante groups can now mobilise rapidly in response to security incidents, often deploying in under 15 minutes to counter emerging threats.
General Abdulsalam concluded that the royal recognition would further motivate the vigilante groups and all security stakeholders to strengthen their efforts in maintaining peace across Yobe State.
