Story from Hamzat Ibrahim ABAGA

A sales person, Abdullahi Dahiru, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by an Area Court in Jos, Plateau State, after he confessed to stealing goods worth two million naira from his employer in Terminus market.

Judge Shawomi handed the six months sentence to Dahiru after he pleaded guilty to the theft charges and sought leniency from the court.

Neptune Prime gathered that the case was reported to the police by Mr Musa Hassan on June 15 at the “C” division police station after he discovered that goods worth two million naira had gone missing from his store, with the accused being identified as a salesperson in his provision shop at Terminus market.

During police investigation, the accused made a confession, admitting to the theft, he revealed that he had given the stolen money to his mother and elder brother, who used it to purchase cows and roofing sheets.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the complainant, while taking inventory of the items in his store, discovered that the accused person, a salesperson in his provision shop at Terminus market, stole goods worth two million naira.

The prosecutor further told the court that during a police investigation, the accused person confessed to having committed the offence.

The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
