Enugu Govt apprehends suspected ESN/IPOB hoodlums behind sit-at-home enforcement

Enugu State Government announced on Thursday that numerous hoodlums suspected to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN)/the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who were enforcing the illegal sit-at-home order in the state, have been apprehended.

The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, disclosed this in a statement.

The statement emphasized that these hoodlums, anarchists, and criminal elements, who exploit the guise of freedom agitation to perpetrate destructive acts and engage in violent crimes, have been tracked down, arrested, and will face legal consequences.

Additionally, those responsible for spreading misinformation and panic through the circulation of fake videos and images have also been identified and taken into custody.

“We are making significant progress in this fight, and we implore the people of Enugu to assist the authorities by providing information about any suspicious individuals or activities, as well as those who exploit social media to spread rumors and incite fear among the public,” the statement read.

Furthermore, the statement reminded citizens and residents that work, business, schooling, and all other legitimate activities would continue without interruption on Friday, July 7, 2023.

The government directed all offices, schools, business premises, and markets, including the renowned Ogbete Main Market, to resume operations. Failure to comply with this directive would be regarded as a deliberate act to undermine the government’s efforts to restore normal working days, productivity, and entrepreneurial activities in the state. Such non-compliance would be met with appropriate sanctions.

The government urged the public to disregard fear mongering tactics and confidently proceed with their daily routines, as comprehensive security measures are in place to enforce law and order, ensuring the safety of lives and property.
