Decomposing body found near ABU fence
Residents of Samaru, near the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) fence in Zaria, Kaduna State, were gripped by shock on Saturday morning after discovering the lifeless body of an unidentified man close to the Police Gate along the university’s perimeter wall.
Reports suggest that the deceased, believed to be between 40 and 45 years old, may have been dead for four to five days before the discovery, as parts of his body had already started decomposing.
According to eyewitnesses, some children passing by first spotted the corpse and immediately alerted the university’s security personnel, who promptly responded.
Confirming the incident, the Head of Security at ABU, Malam Ashiru T. Zango, said investigations were underway. He urged members of the university community and neighbouring residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could threaten public safety.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Samaru Division, CSP Atiku Muhammad, who supervised the evacuation of the body, also confirmed the discovery. He stated that the police had begun investigations but were yet to identify the deceased.
Following police directives, health officials from Sabon Gari Local Government, led by Malam Muhammad Yusuf, conducted the burial to prevent potential public health risks.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, coming just days after the body of a female health worker was found murdered at Filin Mallakar, another community in Zaria.

A community leader, Malam Ubale Mai Kama Macizai (Sarkin Baka), called on university and local security agencies to intensify patrols to ensure the safety of students and residents. He also commended the DPO for his commitment to maintaining peace and urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement.
