EPL: Arsenal fall 0-1 at Newcastle, title hopes fade

Newcastle United inflicted a significant blow to Arsenal’s Premier League title aspirations with a 1-0 victory at St. James’ Park. The defeat allows league leaders Manchester City to potentially extend their lead over the Gunners to eight points if they win against Bournemouth later today.

Sweden’s Alexander Isak scored the only goal of the match in the 12th minute, heading in a precise cross from Anthony Gordon. Despite dominating possession, Arsenal managed just one shot on target throughout the match.

The loss marks Arsenal’s third consecutive match without a win, leaving them with only one point from their last three fixtures. Head coach Mikel Arteta’s side appeared ill-prepared to maintain their title challenge, as the gap to City widens alarmingly.

Arsenal started brightly, with Leandro Trossard missing a chance early on, but quickly succumbed to Newcastle’s pressure. Isak’s goal showcased a lapse in Arsenal’s defence, as he found space between Gabriel and William Saliba.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka struggled to make an impact, narrowly missing with a header in the 18th minute. Despite a late push, including substitutions of 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri and defender Ben White, Arsenal could not find an equaliser.

Declan Rice had a golden opportunity to level the score in stoppage time but headed wide from a Saka cross. The Gunners will face a tough schedule ahead, with matches against Inter Milan in the Champions League and Chelsea next week.

The victory elevates Newcastle to eighth place in the Premier League standings.
