Erection-causing spider shuts Austrian supermarket
An Austrian supermarket was evacuated after the store manager reportedly spotted a banana-loving spider capable of causing permanent erections in men.
The Penny shop in Krems an der Donau, located 45 miles west of Vienna, has been closed since Tuesday due to fears surrounding the presence of a four-inch black and red spider.
Emergency services were called in and warned that the spider, which is still at large, might be a highly venomous Brazilian Wandering Spider, known to have reached Europe by hiding in bunches of bananas.

An exterminator has been summoned, and the banana crates in the store have been sealed. However, reports indicate that the shop will likely remain closed until next week.
A spokesman for the Rewe retail group stated that “comprehensive cleaning and disinfection measures” are currently underway to prepare the store for reopening. Despite extensive efforts to locate the spider, authorities have not yet found any spiders to date.
The spider’s size and colouring, which were difficult to identify, led authorities to believe it could be a Brazilian Wandering Spider capable of emitting a deadly neurotoxin.
This creature ranks among the world’s most venomous spiders. Its bites can be fatal, causing symptoms such as hypothermia, blurred vision, convulsions, and, in some cases, erections.
Interestingly, the spider’s venom is even being studied for potential use in treating erectile dysfunction, as it was discovered that a bite from one of these spiders can induce a painful four-hour erection.
