Ex-con hypnotises Okada rider, steals motorcycle

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended Jaafar Lawan, an ex-convict, for multiple counts of armed robbery, including a bizarre incident involving the use of hypnosis on his victim.
Lawan, previously convicted of theft, was arrested following a fresh complaint on November 17, 2024.
According to police reports, he posed as a passenger, boarded a commercial motorcycle (okada), and used a white powder to hypnotise the rider before stealing the motorcycle.
Police spokesperson SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil confirmed the arrest, revealing that Lawan had a history of similar offences.

“The suspect was previously arrested for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery on 27/07/2023 when he disguised himself as a passenger and boarded an okada driven by one Kabiru Muhammadu.
“Upon reaching the Wikki Oil axis, Jaafar and an accomplice, Mustapha Adam, brought out a trailer-wheel spanner and struck the rider on the head, causing a serious injury and rendering him unconscious.
“The suspects were subsequently charged and convicted in court,” Wakil stated.
In the recent case, Lawan allegedly stopped the okada rider near the Gidan Kaji area around 11:00 AM, applied a powder to the victim, and rendered him unconscious. The victim later regained consciousness in a hospital three days after the incident.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, has directed the implementation of stringent security measures across Bauchi State to ensure a safe festive period for residents.
The investigation into the latest case is ongoing, and the suspect is expected to face new charges in court upon its conclusion.
