FG lifts restriction, allows Corps members to work in oil firms, telcos

In response to increasing concerns over youth unemployment, the Federal Government has revoked all previous directives imposing posting restrictions for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

A memo dated November 18, 2024, from the Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, to the NYSC Director-General, confirmed that the lifting of these restrictions will take effect at the start of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course.

“Therefore, as we battle the unemployment crisis, there is an urgent need to review this policy in order to expand opportunities and access for corps members to serve in places relevant to their areas of study. Without prejudice to the need for constant reviews in accordance with prevailing realities, I now direct as follows: Lifting of all restrictions on postings.

“Postings of corps members, as much as practicable, should align with their course of study. Corps members may also be posted to select banks and other private sector organizations, including those in oil and gas, starting with Abuja and Lagos.

“I hereby revoke all previous directives related to posting restrictions, effective from the commencement of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course.

“The directive contained herein will take effect from the commencement of the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Orientation Course and applies to any matter relating to the posting and distribution of corps members to Places of Primary Assignment,” he stated.
