Nigeria’s Super Falcons on Thursday morning were beaten by Japan 0-2 in Kobe in an international friendly match played at the Noevir Stadium.
Thursday’s defeat makes it the Falcons third straight loss in friendly encounter to the Japanese side who were 2011 World Champions.

Japan took advantage of their dominance in the second half of the match after the Nigerians failed to utilize chances created in the first half which ended goalless.
Nigeria had the chance to take the lead when Leicester City’s fullback Ashley Plumptre’s superb free-kick hit the woodwork in the first 45.
The former African Champions would have conceded more goals but thanks to the brilliance of goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for keeping the team levelled at the break.
Japan’s Mina Tanaka broke Nigeria’s resistance midway through the second half.
Tanaka added the second from the penalty spot shortly after to condemn Nigeria to their fifth consecutive defeats from abysmal Women African Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The Super Falcons are yet to record a victory since they lost to Morocco and Zambia at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. Also, they lost twice to the United States of America (USA) before the Japan friendly.
Both their games against USA and Japan were in preparation for 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
