Faulty truck crashes into residential building, kills 9 family members
A devastating incident unfolded in Okete, a serene community in the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, early Thursday morning, claiming the lives of nine family members.
The tragedy occurred at approximately 5 am, while the victims were reportedly still asleep. According to sources, a truck travelling along the roadside suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the residential building.
“The incident happened early this morning when most people were still in bed. The loud noise from the crash woke up the neighbours,” an eyewitness recounted.

Confirming the incident, the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, Catherine Anene, stated: “The truck rammed into a residential building, killing nine members of the family. The unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.”
She further assured the public that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident had commenced and promised to provide additional details as they become available.
This tragic event has left the local community in shock, raising concerns over road safety and the maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles.
