FBI arrests Nigerian man over alleged visa overstay, assault on immigration officer
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested a Nigerian national, Oluwadamilola Ogooluwa Bamigboye, over allegations of visa overstay, evasion of arrest, and assault on a federal immigration officer.
Bamigboye and his alleged accomplice, Rekeya Frazier, are facing federal charges related to the assault of a Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agent.
The incident occurred on December 10 when HSI agents went to Bamigboye’s apartment complex in Plymouth, Minnesota, as part of an investigation into an alleged student visa overstay.
According to FOX 9, the agents began monitoring Bamigboye’s vehicle, which was parked nearby, and noticed an SUV parked next to it. When agents approached the SUV on foot, they found Bamigboye seated in the passenger seat and Frazier, believed to be his girlfriend, in the driver’s seat.

The agents identified themselves with their badges and informed the pair that they wanted to question Bamigboye about his immigration status. After asking which law enforcement agency they represented, Bamigboye allegedly moved into the back seat and instructed Frazier to drive away.
As Frazier attempted to start the vehicle, one of the agents entered the SUV in an effort to prevent it from moving. Despite this, Frazier reportedly drove off, pushed the agent’s hand away, and threatened to crash the vehicle if he continued to interfere.
During the drive, Frazier claimed they were heading to a police station. Bamigboye allegedly called 911, while the agent contacted his command center. Other HSI agents pursued the SUV with lights and sirens activated.
The vehicle eventually stopped in front of the New Hope Police Department, where HSI agents blocked it in. Bamigboye reportedly fled on foot toward a nearby grocery store, where he was arrested.
The federal agent involved later stated that he feared he was being abducted during the incident.
