‎Kano: Man slits cleric’s throat inside mosque

‎An elderly Islamic cleric, Ladan Zubairu, was brutally killed on Monday morning at Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters area of Kano State.

‎According to findings by Neptune, the attacker was immediately chased by an enraged crowd after the incident and was beaten to death. His house was also set on fire, triggering fear and unrest in the community before security operatives intervened and restored order.

‎The victim’s son, Isa Kasim, explained that his father had gone to the mosque at dawn to call worshippers to prayer. After completing the first call to prayer, he customarily sat to recite supplications before making the second call.

‎“He had just completed the first call and was seated when someone entered the mosque with a weapon, seized him, and slit his throat,” Kasim said.

‎He added that local youths quickly mobilised after the attack, pursued the suspect, and killed him.

‎“By God’s will, the attacker did not escape. Members of the community tracked him down and killed him,” he stated.

‎Kasim further disclosed that after the suspect was killed, residents found the cleric’s severed throat wrapped in a nylon bag inside the assailant’s pocket.

‎Confirming the incident, the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said officers swiftly moved in to calm the situation and prevent further violence.

‎“Our officers acted promptly to restore calm and prevent escalation. Normalcy has now returned to Maraba Quarters,” Kiyawa said.

‎Police recovered the bodies of both the victim and the suspect and transported them to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
