Female tenants kidnap 4 girls days after moving into apartment

Four children have been allegedly kidnapped by a new neighbour who had moved in just three days earlier into an apartment in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
The parents identified as Madam Ngozi Kingsley, Madam Ifeanyi Uduma, and Madam Blessing Peter Obasi, all traders from Ebonyi State, recounted their shocking ordeal.
The suspected abductor, along with an unidentified companion, arrived on December 15, seemingly blending in with minimal belongings; a camp gas, a small foam, and a mat.
However, suspicion arose when the two tenants were observed wearing similar wrappers, suggesting a lack of diverse clothing.
Initially perceived as friendly neighbours, the suspects quickly integrated into the community, playing with children, giving gifts, and even going shopping with them.
The victims’ mothers shared instances of the suspects providing food, drinks, and biscuits to the children, fostering trust.
One mother, Madam Uduma, recounted a peculiar incident where her child wore a cloth with red spots obtained from the suspects. Sensing something amiss, she removed the garment, prompting queries from the suspects.

Unaware of the sinister plot, Madam Uduma had recently relocated from Ohafia to Umuahia seeking a better life for her family. The suspects’ seemingly benevolent actions concealed their ulterior motives.
However, on Saturday, the suspects allegedly abducted four girls, including the grandchild of another tenant whose daughter was reportedly dead.
Distraught and unable to contact the landlord or Ngozi Kingsley, who was out of town, the victims sought help from the police, leading to the arrest of some suspects.
Police spokesperson ASP Maureen Chinaka confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigations. She urged the public to report such incidents promptly and cautioned against entrusting children to unfamiliar individuals, emphasising the importance of vigilance and involving the police when in doubt.
