Femi Falana Calls For Reform: Judges should not certify election results
Femi Falana, a prominent legal advocate from Nigeria, highlighted a crucial lesson from the 2023 general election.
He pointed out that there is no precedent worldwide for judges to decide or validate election results.
Falana argued that this approach diverges from international norms and should be abandoned. He emphasized the significance of addressing the numerous election-related petitions in Nigeria.

During an interview with Channels Television, Falana advocated for an improved resolution of electoral disputes.
He underscored the necessity for all stakeholders—political parties, legal practitioners, judges, and political figures—to collectively agree that judges should no longer play a role in determining or certifying election outcomes.
Falana stated, “Where it’s going to end is the determination, this time around of all stakeholders, lawyers, judges, and political leaders, we need to resolve that never again are we going to allow judges to determine or confirm the results of the election. It doesn’t happen anywhere in the world, and that is why I have repeatedly challenged my colleagues: Are you aware that we have the largest number of election petitions in the world?”
