FG fulfills housing, land pledges to Super Eagles for 2023 AFCON
The Federal Government has fulfilled its promise of housing and land allocations to members of the Super Eagles in recognition of their runner-up performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed that players have received certificates for the plots of land and housing units pledged by President Bola Tinubu. The documents were formally presented to the team at their camp in Fes, Morocco.
Promise Efoghe, Media Officer of the Super Eagles, disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the presentation took place ahead of the team’s ongoing preparations.
Nigeria finished second at the AFCON tournament, which was held in 2024, after losing 2–1 to host nation Côte d’Ivoire in the final. Following their return, President Tinubu hosted the players at the Presidential Villa, where each squad member was conferred with the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).

In addition to the honours, the president approved a plot of land in the Federal Capital Territory and a housing unit for every player as a reward for their performance.
NAN reports that the OON certificates were also presented to the players by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Abdul Ningi, alongside the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi.
Speaking at the event, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau said the fulfilment of the promises reflected the Federal Government’s strong commitment to the development of sports in the country.
“The president graciously promised houses, land and national honours, and those promises are now being fulfilled,” Gusau said. “There was no justification to begin another AFCON campaign without honouring that pledge. It demonstrates seriousness and respect for the players.”
He added that the team remains focused and optimistic ahead of the ongoing tournament in Morocco, expressing confidence that the Super Eagles can emerge champions and inspire Nigerians at home and abroad.
