With strength still left for the Japanese who perhaps were underrated by Spain after getting an early goal 11 minutes to kick off by Alvaro Morata once again conceded another goal for allowing the Japanese midfielder, A Tanaka firing the ball into the back of the net to give his country the lead.

Elsewhere, Costa Rica were unable to keep up the pressure which produced their 2-1 lead without conceding further but they were out muscled by the Germans who won 4-2.

The two teams were left behind and would be heading home as Japan and Spain qualified.

Earlier in the day, world number one, Belgium played a goalless draw with Croatia and Morocco beat Canada 2-1 to advance with Croatia in Group F.
