Fire razes 1-storey building in Lagos, no casualties recorded

A devastating fire has engulfed a one-storey building on Abike Suleiman Street in the Lekki area of Lagos State, officials confirmed on Friday.

In a statement, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed that the agency swiftly responded after receiving distress calls. The State’s Emergency Response Plans were activated, and the Response Team from the Lekki Base was deployed to the scene.

Upon their arrival, responders discovered that the building was completely engulfed in flames. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown as investigations are ongoing.

“No casualties were recorded, and no injuries were sustained,” Oke-Osanyintolu assured.

He commended LASEMA’s Shark Response Team and other emergency responders for their swift action in containing the fire and preventing it from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

“The inferno was contained from escalating to adjoining buildings. The fire has been completely extinguished, and the dampening down operation has been concluded,” he added.

Residents in the area have lauded the prompt response by emergency services, which they believe prevented further destruction.
