Flame Tree Writers’ Project announces call for applications for emerging writers from Nigeria
The Flame Tree Writers Project in collaboration, with the Heinrich Böll Foundation is inviting applications from budding writers hailing from Northern Nigeria.
The workshop, spearheaded by Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, a recognized NLNG Nigeria Prize for Literature recipient aims to nurture the writing talents of individuals and contribute to fostering a more democratic peaceful, gender equal and socially equitable environment in Northern Nigeria.
Scheduled for June 24, 28, 2024 in Abuja, the funded 5 day workshop will be co facilitated by Chika Unigwe, another NLNG Nigeria Prize winning author.
Participants will benefit from expert guidance to craft a story for publication in an anthology of new writings.
The workshop targets writers aged 18-35 living in the 19 Northern States of Nigeria, with exclusive encouragement to females. The eligibility criteria and the application sent through an on email to flametreewritersproject@gmail.com are all due by June 1 st, 2024.
Abubakar Adam Ibrahim seemed elated about the initiative. “He saw it as an avenue that is particularly close to his heart and one that would feel his pipe dreams, as he assumed that the empowerment of emerging writers would eventually lead to the creation of a republican and just society, in Northern Nigeria”.
While introducing the Project, the Heinrich Böll Foundation’s Program manager, Ere Amachree, reiterated the found inaction’s commitment to supporting writing as synthesis and promotion’s main tools of the ideals.
The Flame Tree Writers’ Project is a unique initiative that offers emerging writers a platform to develop their skills and contribute to the growing literary landscape in Nigeria.
