Flooding displaces over 3,600 residents in Kaduna communities

Severe flooding has displaced at least 3,633 residents in several communities across Kaduna State.

The floods, which were triggered by relentless rainfall, have caused significant destruction to homes and infrastructure, forcing thousands to seek refuge in temporary shelters.

According to local authorities, the worst-affected areas include low-lying communities where drainage systems are either nonexistent or inadequate.

The flooding has not only displaced residents but also destroyed farmlands, worsening the food security situation in the region.

The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) is currently coordinating relief efforts, providing essential supplies such as food, water, and medical aid to the displaced.

However, the agency has expressed concerns over the growing number of affected people and the strain on resources.

“We are doing our best to provide immediate relief, but the situation is overwhelming,” said a KADSEMA official. “The scale of the disaster requires more support, both from the state government and international aid organizations.”

Residents in the affected areas have called on the government to take more proactive measures to prevent future flooding, including the construction of proper drainage systems and flood barriers.

They also urged the government to provide long-term solutions to resettle those who have lost their homes.

As the rainy season continues, there are fears that more communities may be at risk of flooding, and officials are on high alert to respond to any new emergencies.
