The Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, in a joint military exercise with Niger Republic, engaged Boko Haram fighters in a gun battle at Kure village in Borno State, on Tuesday killing scores of the terrorists.
However, Defence Headquarters stated that the troops of both countries conducted the clearance operation on Monday, recovering a gun truck, one anti-aircraft gun, a motorcycle, a light machine gun, an AK-47 rifle and ammunition.
In a statement, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Brig Gen Bernard Onyeuko, says that some of the terrorists fled with gunshot injuries.

He said, “In continuation of the ongoing clearance operations in the North-East Theatre of Operation, combined troops of 403 Special Forces Brigade, Baga, and the Niger Republic troops supported by the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole had a fierce encounter with some Boko Haram and Islamic State West African Province elements at Kure village along Tumbun Rago and Tumbun Fulani general areas of Borno State.
“Consequently, the terrorists were decisively dealt with during the encounter, the terrorists suffered heavy casualties and an unconfirmed number escaped with gunshot injuries”.
“There was no casualty or equipment loss by the joint military forces.”
