Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, dies in Saudi Arabia
Former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad (rtd.), has died in Saudi Arabia. A close source confirmed that the respected jurist passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at a hospital in the Kingdom.
The Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS), National Headquarters in Abuja, officially announced his passing in a condolence statement, describing his death as a significant loss to the Nigerian judiciary, the legal profession, and the nation at large.
Justice Muhammad, who rose to the highest judicial office in Nigeria before his retirement, was widely admired for his integrity, humility, and dedication to justice. According to NAMLAS, his career was marked by fairness, courage, and strict adherence to the rule of law, qualities that earned him respect across the legal community.
Beyond his service on the bench, the late CJN was a committed mentor to young Muslim law students nationwide, offering guidance, encouragement, and support to help shape future leaders in the justice system.

NAMLAS extended its condolences to his family, the Nigerian judiciary, the government, and the Muslim Ummah. The association prayed that Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his good deeds, and grants him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus.
