Army thwarts kidnap plot, frees three captives in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have successfully foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued three victims in Taraba State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Army Public Relations Officer, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Captain Umar Muhammad, the operation was carried out on January 5, 2026, following credible intelligence received by troops deployed in Jeb Jeb town.

According to the statement, the intelligence indicated the presence and activities of suspected kidnappers in Sangai Village, Bachama Ward of Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

Acting swiftly on the information, the troops were mobilised and pursued the suspects towards the border area between Taraba and Plateau states, leading to the rescue of the victims.

The Army identified the rescued persons as 25-year-old Nimron Umar Ab, 20-year-old Safaras Ibrahim, and 23-year-old Habila Yunusa.

It added that the victims are currently in military custody, where they are receiving necessary care and undergoing documentation, after which they will be reunited with their families.

Commending the troops for their professionalism, the Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to sustaining security operations across the state.

He also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial to the success of ongoing military operations.
