Former minister slumps, dies while playing table tennis

Caleb Olubolade, the former military administrator of Bayelsa State, has passed away at the age of 70.

Olubolade, who served as minister of special duties under former Premier Goodluck Jonathan, died on Sunday in Apapa area of Lagos.

According to a statement released by his children, Akinadewo and Dayo Olubolade, the former minister slumped at a lawn tennis facility.

“He drove himself to the facility to play lawn tennis in the evening and slumped while playing. Efforts were made by medical officers around to revive him to no avail,” the statement reads.

He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Obisesan Naval medical hospital in Apapa.

Olubolade, who celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024, had a distinguished career in Nigeria’s public service.

The family said details regarding the burial will be announced at a later time.
