Dismay as whereabouts of Katsina varsity lecturer remain unknown months later

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina branch, has raised alarm over the non-release of one of its members, Abubakar Idris.

Idris was abducted four months ago from his Kaduna home. ASUU -FUDMA Chairperson, Comrade Yahaya A. Mohammed, said the abducted lecturer who is of the Department of Languages and Linguistics at the university, was abducted in the wee hours of August 2, 2019, from his house at Shagari Low-cost, Kaduna.

The abductors have not communicated with the family to make any demands.

“The family reported the case to the police and other security agencies in the state, but no positive response has been received. The kidnappers up to date have neither called for ransom nor stated any reason for his abduction.

“On October 11, 2019, the branch submitted a letter to the office of Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State, formerly reporting the case and soliciting his quick intervention to trace Idris’ whereabouts but up till now no positive response,” he said.

The Union also viewed the abduction of its member as inhuman and abuse of his basic human rights.

ASUU, therefore, implored security agencies to do more in finding out the whereabouts of their missing members and ensure his immediate release. It also appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to support them in this crusade.
