Fraudster hunts Islamic cleric with soldiers after failed prayers

Hamzat, a block factory owner in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, has raised an alarm after claiming that soldiers unlawfully stormed his factory and seized his Toyota RAV 4 vehicle. According to Hamzat, the soldiers, numbering about five, were actually searching for his younger brother, Sulaimon, who is an Islamic cleric.

The incident reportedly began after Hamzat introduced his girlfriend’s brother, who is suspected of being involved in fraudulent activities known as “Yahoo boys,” to Sulaimon for special prayers. Following the success of the initial prayer, it is alleged that Sulaimon referred the brother to another Islamic cleric in Lagos for more spiritual assistance. However, it is unclear what transpired between them afterwards.

Hamzat recounts that on Tuesday, he received a call informing him that some individuals wished to buy blocks at his factory. Upon arrival, he was approached by the soldiers who claimed they wanted to speak with him. Confused, he asked for an explanation, but they quickly apprehended him. To his surprise, he noticed that the brother he had introduced to Sulaimon, as well as his girlfriend, were also present in the soldiers’ vehicle.

The soldiers insisted that Hamzat accompany them and attempted to take possession of his car, but he refused to surrender his keys, stating that he had not committed any crime. Instead, he agreed to follow them in another vehicle. They subsequently took him to their barracks in Ebute, collected N10,000 from him, seized his car, and demanded that he produce his brother.

Hamzat claims that one of the soldiers continues to contact him, pressuring him to produce Sulaimon. When contacted, the number belonging to the soldier led our correspondent to the Army base at Arepo.

Upon receiving the report, Lt Col Ayeni Olabisi, the spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, promised to look into the matter. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, also confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.

As the incident unfolds, we hope for a swift resolution that brings justice and peace to all parties involved.
