The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to revoke the driver’s licences of unruly drivers as part of efforts to reduce road crashes in Nigeria.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed made this announcement in Abuja while reviewing the outcomes of the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir Special Patrol Operations, which took place from Friday, June 14, to Sunday, June 16.

Mohammed emphasized the importance of collective participation and collaboration among all stakeholders in ensuring road safety.

“We took full advantage of the opportunity to reduce road crashes and fatalities by enforcing laws and educating commuters on safety consciousness,” Mohammed stated.

“If we fail on our part, posterity will not pardon our failure to manage the challenges, and the scars of our irresponsibility will be deafening.”

The Corps Marshal also highlighted the strengthening of the ongoing Inter-agency Joint Task Force (JTF) to curb the excesses of trailer drivers as a key activity during the special patrol operations.

Additionally, Mohammed mentioned robust engagements with the leadership of various transport unions, security agencies, state traffic management agencies, and the FCT Department of Road Traffic Services as crucial steps taken by the Corps.

The FRSC’s efforts underscore a commitment to enhancing road safety and ensuring that all drivers adhere to traffic laws to prevent accidents and fatalities.
