FUGA: SSANU, NASU, others reject 7 years requirement for VC’s seat, ask council to revoke decision

Catastrophe shaking the Federal University Gashu’a has taken another dimension as the Joint Action Committee of the University has collectively rejected the seven years requirement as Professor for prospective competitors vying for the office of the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

Arising from an emergency meeting today attended by the branch executives of Academic Staff Forum of Federal University Gashu’a (ASFFUG), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), National Association of Academic Technologies (NAAT) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), the groups vehemently kicked against the decision of the Governing Council and demanded downward review of the seven years criteria.

In a communique mutually signed by the representatives of the Unions, members of the groups unequivocally requested that the Governing Council revoke the decision of seven years to five years to clear path for all prospective candidates to participate in the selection exercise of the new Vice-Chancellor including those within the University.

They also called for a transparent and open contest in all the vacant positions including that of the Director of Works.

The Committee further said that any attempt to subvert the will of the people will be resisted by the groups.
