Full List: Phones that will lose access to WhatsApp in 2025
Starting January 1, 2025, Android devices running on KitKat or older operating systems will no longer support WhatsApp, as reported by IOL.
This decision by Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, is aimed at enhancing security and improving app functionality.
Meta explained that the move is driven by the app’s evolving features, such as encryption updates, multi-device support, advanced video calling options, and AI functionalities, which require more modern hardware and software to function effectively.

“Older devices struggle to support new features and can not protect user data effectively as technology advances,” Meta stated.
Without necessary software and security updates, these devices become more vulnerable to cyber threats, and app functionality diminishes over time.
