FULL LIST: US releases 2025 visa-free list, excludes UK, Nigeria
The United States has announced the updated list of countries eligible for its 2025 Visa Waiver Programme (VWP), which introduces new travel policies and eligibility criteria.
Notably, several African nations, including Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana, are not part of the new programme. The U.S. Department of State recently revealed these changes, which aim to simplify the process of traveling to the U.S. without a visa. This update makes it easier for citizens of participating countries to enter the U.S. for tourism, business, or transit.
The 2025 Visa Waiver Programme now includes 40 countries, allowing their citizens to travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days without needing a visa. Romania is a new addition to the list, while Taiwan and the United Kingdom remain eligible under specific conditions.
The U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs explained that travellers from VWP countries must obtain an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before their journey. Those who prefer a visa in their passport can still apply for a visitor visa.
This update to the Visa Waiver Programme focuses on enhancing security checks and prioritizing countries with strong diplomatic ties and robust border security. While the list of eligible countries remains largely the same, Romania’s inclusion marks a significant change. However, Romania, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom have been excluded from the U.S. visa and interview waiver programme for 2025.
