FUTA students develop App that monitors library activities

Students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have created an innovative application called TouchNut to monitor library activities.
The App is now being tested at the institution.
The announcement was made in a statement by Adegbenro Adebanjo, the Deputy Director of Corporate Communications at FUTA.

The software, called TouchNut, was developed by a team led by Daniel Adeniyi, a 400 level student in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
The application is currently being used to regulate the entry and exit of students into the Albert Ilemobade Library, as well as monitoring other library’s activities.
Adeniyi highlighted that the main advantage of the software is its user-friendly identification system, which assists the security unit in monitoring library activities.
He said TouchNut operates through an intranet server containing students’ information and ensures a secure connection.
With the TouchNut App, students can easily borrow books, which means library staff no longer need to worry about tracking due dates, as the software will notify them when a student’s borrowed item is due for return.
The TouchNut identification software benefits three key units within the library. First, it aids the security unit in checking individuals entering and exiting the library, it also facilitates user profile creation for students and the issuance of library cards.
Lastly, it provides the management unit with comprehensive oversight of library operations.
Following the completion of the test run, the software will be deployed to other relevant areas on campus, including campus shuttle transportation.
FUTA is actively supporting its students in product development, intellectual property registration, and commercialisation.
The innovative App demonstrates the university’s commitment to harnessing technology to enhance library services and improve campus experiences.
