A gambler who claimed a London casino owed him nearly a quarter of a million pounds has lost his case in the High Court.

Croatian businessman Juste Puharic gambled £27 million at the Park Lane Club in Mayfair over five nights in 2015 and was up by £1.2 million by the end, a judge heard.

Puharic, who described himself as a ‘high roller’, claimed he had been offered an incentive to play roulette at the club and was owed around £244,000.

But Judge Gavin Mansfield, who heard that Puharic was a well-known figure in Mayfair casinos, has dismissed his claim.

The judge concluded that Puharic had reached no ‘concluded agreement’ about bonuses or incentives with Silverbond Enterprises.

He had considered evidence at a High Court hearing in November and announced his decision in a ruling published online on Wednesday. Judge Mansfield, who heard that Puharic’s ‘total turnover’ had been £27 million, said: ‘Over five nights in May 2015 the claimant played roulette at the club.

“Those nights were the first and last times he played at the club. Despite a loss on his first night, the claimant was successful overall: he won £1,240,900.

“The claimant was paid his winnings. This claim concerns an additional amount: a bonus or incentive.

“The claimant claims an incentive was offered to induce him to play at the club. He says he would not have played at the club without such an incentive.”

Casino bosses disputed Puharic’s claim and the judge ruled in their favour.

“In my judgment, there was no concluded agreement reached between the parties about bonuses or incentives,’ the judge said. ‘The claimant was paid his winnings and is entitled to no further sum.”
