Why Gov Ganduje decided to withdraw case against Daily Nigerian Publisher for out-of-court settlement

Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Kano State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has decided through his lawyers to withdraw a legal suit he instituted against the Publisher of Daily Nigerian, Malam Jaafar Jaafar.

In October 2018, the publisher of Daily Nigerian, a former staff of Daily Trust in Kano and media adviser to former Governor Kwankwaso, Malam Jaafar Jaafar posted a video on Daily Nigerian online page where Governor Umar Ganduje was seen collecting and stuffing Dollars into his Babbar Riga which he collected from a contractor.

When agents of the state government denied the allegation Jaafar Jaafar went ahead and released two other videos also showing the governor collecting bribe in dollars.

This angered members of the Kano State House of Assembly who summoned Jaafar Jaafar to come and appear before it and swear by the Holy Quran that the allegation was true. Jaafar Jaafar did as expected, he came all the way from Abuja with a copy of the Holy Quran which he was to swear by it before the House of Assembly, but some of the members insisted that the Quran which Jaafar Jaafar brought himself may not be complete.

Since then, Ganduje through his lawyers has decided to take Jaafar Jaafar to Court for defamation of character, recently, the governor openly threatened that he will deal with Jaafar Jaafar and his sponsors, worried by this threat, Jaafar Jaafar had since fled to London with his family.

But after former member House of Reps from Kano, Hon. Faruk Lawal was jailed on similar allegations, to seven years imprisonment and the coming 2023 politics, which the alleged video may play a vital role, the Governor sources said have decided to approach Jaafar Jaafar for them to settle out of court.
