Gov. Buni approves continuation of Agribusiness Support Programme for farmersĀ

The Executive Governor of Yobe State, Honourable Mai Mala Buni, has approved the continuation of the Agribusiness Support Programme to boost agricultural growth in Yobe State.

The continuation would go beyond the joint financing that was earlier proposed.

The Yobe Sate Government in conjunction with the World Bank, the African Union and the Federal Government of Nigeria completed the implementation of a 5-year Climate Change Adaptation and Agribusiness support programme in March 2022, which informed the government’s decision to continue with the programme beyond the joint financing.

While flagging off the sales and distribution of fertilizer for the 2022 cropping season in Damaturu, Governor BuniĀ said agriculture remained the major preoccupation of Yobe citizens and the commodity discount to be sold at #13,000 per bag.

According to him, his administration would continue to give the sector top priority and be in tune with the federal government’s policy on agriculture as one of the most important sectors of the natural economy.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the Federal/Yobe State joint funding of the Jakusko–Nasari livestock development centre and other agricultural incentives provided to both crops and livestock farmers across the country.

Buni further revealed that his administration will continue to create the right platform that will support citizens and generate employment, enhance self-reliance, and food sufficienc as well as contributing to the national agricultural policy for the attainment of food security in Nigeria.

ā€œAs you may be aware, the United Nations has warned of anticipated food scarcity and shortage due to some human and natural factors in Nigeria, the security challenge in some part of the country may affect food production.ā€

ā€œWe should therefore take advantage of the improved security situation in the state to boost our agricultural production, and to also engage in irrigation farming.ā€ The Governor added.

He also appealed to farmers in the state not to resell the fertilizers but ensure its full utilisation for agricultural production and income generation.
