Gov. Buni approves key projects, healthcare upgrades at executive council meeting

Yobe State Executive Council, presided over by Governor Mai Mala Buni, has on Wednesday approved a series of major projects and policies aimed at enhancing infrastructure, healthcare, and public accountability.
The approvals, ratified during the council’s latest meeting, involve a total investment of over ₦4.89 billion across key sectors.
The council meeting has okayed the upgrade of three major hospitals that include Specialist Hospital Buni-Yadi, Specialist Hospital Damaturu, and General Hospital Nangere.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Mohammed Lawan Gana, said the project, costing ₦1.72 billion for civil works, will see operating theatres and maternity centres modernised to meet state regulatory standards.
“In a separate approval,₦473.7 million was allocated for the procurement of essential medical equipment, including radio-diagnostic machines, for hospitals across the state,” said Dr Gana.
To improve urban connectivity, the council approved two critical road projects in Potiskum, valued at ₦2.69 billion.
According to the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Umar Wakili Duddaye, this includes; the construction of a 4.7-kilometre township road and a new link road from Bazuwa Junction to Anguwan Fulani, connecting to the Fika-Gombe road in Potiskum.
He revealed that the new link will resolve longstanding transportation challenges for residents, particularly during the rainy season.

In a significant move for governance, the council approved a new policy to enforce the Public Finance Management Law (2020).
The Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Mohammad Abacha, announced that it will now be mandatory for all public officers to be given and to study the law before assuming their duties.
“Senior civil servants seeking promotion will now be examined on the contents of the law to ensure accountability and transparency in the management of public funds,” said the Finance Commissioner.
The council also ratified approvals for the construction of pavements, clinics, and a fire service station in nearly completed markets in Ngalda and Yunusari.
Other approvals include; the resuscitation of the state’s polythene bag and woven sack company in Damaturu and external works for the Ngalda modern market, including drainage and a boundary wall.
