Gov. Buni flags off distribution of laptops, other empowerment programmes for youths

Story from Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has on Tuesday flagged off the distribution of complete GSM handset repair sets, laptops, fish production, poultry production, small-scale rice milling, personal beauty and hygiene materials to empower youths in the state.

The target beneficiaries include mobile phone repairers, allied products traders and other youths across the state.

Speaking at the occasion, Governor Mai Mala Buni said the empowerment support programme is part of the state’s commitment to creating employment opportunities, promoting self-reliance and improving income generation for the people of the state.

Buni states that the phase II empowerment programme further demonstrates the commitment of his administration to improve the lives of the people through economic empowerment and wealth creation.

He noted that there is no doubt that these programmes combined with the previous skill acquisition and empowerment projects provided by the present administration have generously contributed to the state recovery programme, and provided people with sustainable means of livelihood.

“I am glad to state that the assessment of our performances and awards won by the state government from world-class organisations like the SIFTAS, a World Bank-assisted organisation, has continued to spur us to execute more people-oriented projects and programmes, for us to have value for our money and to uplift the lives of Yobeans.

“Furthermore, this administration has invested heavily in the health sector, commerce and other infrastructural developments, to create a healthy population and the required environment for economic growth and prosperity.

“In addition, our administration being not oblivious of the role of small and medium-scale enterprises in the economic development of any nation, created the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation and use it among other relevant governmental organisations in reaching out to people through providing incentives for increased business activities and stability,” Governor Buni said.

The Governor further revealed that the state’s commitment to poverty alleviation, job and wealth creation to speed up the recovery process and uplift the lives of the people remains sacrosanct and unshakeable.

He appealed to all beneficiaries of the incentives to avoid reselling and ensure optimum utilisation of the items for the attainment of individual and collective goals.

Buni equally enjoined the beneficiaries of the scheme and other empowerment programmes to ensure judicious use of the packages for self-improvement.

Speaking further, Buni thanked everyone for the peaceful conduct of the last Presidential and National Assembly elections and charged citizens to improve on the achievement and avoid issues that have tendencies of breaching peace in the state.

“The next round of elections is around the corner, l implore our dear good people of Yobe State to vote peacefully and wisely in a successful election that would guarantee continuity, consolidation and innovation for a more better life in the next four years,” he said.
