Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni thanked local, national, and international journalists on Wednesday for witnessing firsthand the state’s ongoing recovery and development during a guided tour of the reconstruction of the August 27th Stadium.
Addressing the press corps, Governor Buni expressed his gratitude for their visit, noting that it provided an opportunity to see the “modest achievements” the state has implemented.

“You have witnessed the relative peace we are enjoying and some of the projects we have implemented,” the governor said.

He framed the tour within Yobe’s broader journey from the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency.
“As you are aware, Yobe is one of the states worst hit by the Boko Haram insurgency,” Governor Buni noted, adding that after over a decade of crisis, recovery requires a comprehensive, multi-sectoral strategy.
“Therefore, we have to address it comprehensively, which is why we are giving attention to all sectors of development, as you have observed,” he explained.

Highlighting the dramatic turnaround in security, the governor pointed to the stadium site itself. “At one point in time, this very place where we are standing was under Boko Haram control. Now, you can witness the peace we have achieved.”
The governor emphasised that projects like the stadium are part of a wider mission to restore normalcy and ensure value for public resources.

“We are upgrading and transforming all areas, restoring development to our people, and ensuring value for our resources,” he stated.
The event was organised to showcase the state’s post-conflict rebuilding efforts to the media, highlighting both the return of peace and the concerted push for infrastructural and socio-economic revival across Yobe.
